Custom Plastic Manufacturer: Automotive

Automotive Blow Molding

OMICO Plastics has worked for more than 50 years to create blow-molded, custom plastic parts that fulfill a variety of needs in various industries. The automotive industry has continually found that blow-molded plastics are a durable, safe, and long-lasting alternative to metal parts that can quickly rust and corrode.

As a 100% employee-owned company, OMICO Plastics knows the importance of every part that comes off their line. Our employees can see a car and say, “I played a part in making that car safer.” That is a proud moment for any employee.

We know that quality, delivery times, and safety are all priorities when blow molding automotive parts. The on-time delivery of each part is vital to any vehicle’s production timeline. We take that seriously and work to get you the part you need, when you need it.

Advantages of Blow Molding for the Automotive Industry

Blow molding is favored for the fabrication of specific plastic parts across the automotive industry. Some of the benefits offered by blow molding include:

  • Low mold and tooling costs
  • Versatility in product size/shape
  • Good for high-volume production
  • Short lead times
  • Easy external threading
  • Compatible with a variety of plastic materials

While there is some overlap, blow molding is primarily used for creating large volumes of parts that don’t require high levels of precision. At OMICO Plastics, our blow molding experts can help you to determine if blow molding is the right process for your part design. We have extensive experience creating automotive parts, some of which are listed below.

Interior & Exterior Components

  • Door locking system parts, like knobs, switches, and consoles.
  • Consoles in the interior housing that provide surface housing for controls, instruments, and indicators.
  • Braking components like pads, shims, caliper insulators, and fluid lines.
  • Seating elements such as seat coverings, headrests, slide casings, and adjusters.
  • Storage systems include trunks, floor consoles, door consoles, and overhead bins.
  • Steering wheel accessories such as hands-on/heads-up indicators, speed, cruise, lighting, atmosphere, audio/visual, camera, auto-braking, and various other knobs, and switches.
  • Shifter knobs and handles, which provide grip on levers used on manual or automatic gear shifts.
  • Interior trim, such as door and ceiling panels, seals, handles, arm rests, straps, seat-back trays, entertainment consoles, and more.
  • Drain Tubes, a vital connection between the oil lubrication system and the turbo of the automobile.
  • Air Intake Ducts & Ductwork, the system which draws air going into the air filter housing, eventually mixed with the car fuel.
  • Steering Boots, which protect the steering rack and the inner tie rod ends from dirt & other contaminants.

Under-the-Hood Components

  • Cooling system parts that prevent engine overheating by circulating air and coolant fluid, including hoses, housings, pumps, and fans.
  • Resonators to sense and modulate engine noise information, ensuring a vehicle’s exhaust system does not adversely impact power and performance.
  • Fuel tank system components used to store and deliver fuel to ignition systems, fuel injectors, and carburetors, such as tanks, fuel lines and hoses.
  • Electrical covers made from electrically insulative plastics protect vehicle fuse housings, wiring, and relays.
  • Overflow reservoirs receive, store, and return excess antifreeze and coolant fluids.
  • HVAC components, such as ducting, hoses, hose adapters, defrost adapters, and vents, which carry air from the A/C and heating units to the cabin.
